Employees covered by the Union’s Certificate of Bargaining Authority who were employed by the Employer and were not members of the Union prior to January 1, 1974 shall have the option of: (a) applying for membership in the Union which membership they shall maintain, or (b) not applying for membership in the Union, but as a condition of employment, shall authorize the deduction from their pay cheques of an amount equal to Union Dues and Assessments, and shall be deemed to have made an irrevocable assignment under Article 5.
