Common use of UPW Clause in Contracts

UPW. ‌ The Department of Social and Health Services will grant, upon request of the physician, up to eight (8) working days per year for travel to and attendance at continuing education courses necessary for the maintenance of a license that is relevant to patient care at Eastern State Hospital and Western State Hospital. Full-time physicians may use CME time on an hourly basis. The Department of Social and Health Services may pay for courses when deemed beneficial to patient care and in accordance with agency policy. A request will normally be made at least one (1) month in advance of the date of the course. For CME classes out of state the request must be made one (1) month in advance, unless a shorter time period is authorized. If the supervisor is unable to arrange adequate clinical coverage or if it is determined that the absence of the physician is detrimental to patient care within the hospital, the request can be denied. If it becomes necessary to deny a request, the physician will be given priority consideration on their next request. Within available resources, DSHS may reimburse each physician up to $3000 per year for CME courses. The Employer may grant a physician additional paid time for the purpose of presenting a lecture in an area of their professional expertise to schools, government agencies and non-profit organizations in the state of Washington.
