Verbal Counseling. a method (non disciplinary action) used to inform employee of unsatisfactory work performance or unacceptable conduct as well as the expectations for avoiding future occurrences. The supervisor normally holds a private meeting with the employee following the performance or conduct at issue. The verbal counseling is not subject to the grievance procedures.
