Visiting Faculty. For the duration of this Agreement, the ratio of visiting full-time faculty to full-time faculty shall not exceed the ratio of 1:25 over two consecutive semesters.
Visiting Faculty. 10.6.1 The normal course load for Visiting Faculty members shall be determined as described for full-time Faculty in this Article.
10.6.2 Since it is intended that Visiting Faculty positions shall be used to meet temporary or emergency needs, such appointments are restricted to a maximum of two (2) years, except with the written approval of the Federation. The Federation will make every reasonable effort to accommodate the University in such emergencies. A person initially hired as a Visiting Faculty member may not subsequently be hired to a full-time Faculty position without following the hiring guidelines in the Agreement (see Article 14).
10.6.3 Within the first month of a semester, the Deans shall report to the President of the Federation the extent to which Visiting Faculty are being utilized. If the pattern or extent of such usage is significantly different from that of comparable semesters in the three preceding academic years, an explanation for the difference shall be given. The responsibilities of Visiting Faculty shall be the same as those of full- time Faculty.
Visiting Faculty. A Visiting faculty member is normally someone who holds an appointment at another institution but has been given a temporary appointment to teach and/or conduct research at the University. A faculty member may be appointed as a Visiting faculty member for an initial period of up to two (2) years, the length of such appointment being within the sole discretion of the University. Such a Visiting faculty member shall not be a member of the bargaining unit unless previously employed by the University. Faculty members shall not serve in visiting appointments for more than two (2) years.
Visiting Faculty. An individual may be appointed as visiting assistant professor, visiting associate professor, or visiting professor, provided the individual qualifies for the rank and the appointment is for a designated term.
Visiting Faculty. The Host Institution will accept Faculty subject to mutual scholarly and programmatic interests determined by the respective institutional representatives, availability of facilities, previous or continuing Faculty collaborations, among other relevant factors given the situation will be considered in making this decision. The purpose of any such visit must be teaching and/or cooperative research. No such visit will exceed one (1) academic year as that period is defined by the Host Institution, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the institutions. Faculty and/or scholars will remain on their Home Institution’s payroll. The Home Institution also remains responsible for the administration of any taxes, benefits or other financial obligations of the Home Institution.
Visiting Faculty. “Visiting” status will be reserved for special circumstances, as determined by the Xxxx, for replacement of a faculty member or for short term programmatic needs of the University. Visiting appointments are appropriate only in cases in which association with the University is temporary or in which special circumstances require this kind of appointment such as sabbatical replacement or short term programmatic needs of the University.
Visiting Faculty. “Visiting Faculty Positions” are temporary positions which may carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, Visiting Professor, or Distinguished Visiting Professor.
Visiting Faculty. A. Under circumstances that result in the extended absence of a full-time instructional faculty member (by way of example, a sabbatical leave or extended medical leave), the College may choose to temporarily hire a Visiting Faculty member to ensure the continuation of faculty duties. Visiting Faculty members shall be employed under a separate contract, the terms of which will be set by the College and the Visiting Faculty member, consistent with this Section.
B. The contract term for a Visiting Faculty member shall not exceed two consecutive semesters without the prior mutual consent of the Association and the College.
C. Due to the nature of their employment, Visiting Faculty members are ineligible for continuing appointment, sabbatical leave, or other leaves of absence, except as required by law, nor will they be considered members of the bargaining unit. The grievance provisions of Article VIII shall not apply to a Visiting Faculty Member, but this does not preclude the Association’s right to grieve disputes over the implementation of the Visiting Faculty section of this Agreement.
D. Visiting Faculty members must meet all of the same qualifications as traditional full-time faculty, including guidelines set forth by the College’s accrediting body and any applicable programmatic accreditations. The College will consult with the Association when creating the position profile for a Visiting Faculty member.
E. Compensation for Visiting Faculty members is subject to negotiation between the College and the Visiting Faculty member and need not align with the salary schedule for traditional full-time faculty.
F. Visiting Faculty members will be evaluated in a manner similar to that used for adjunct faculty and are ineligible to serve as Division Chairs. The responsibilities of traditional faculty members, as described in Article IX, Section A, Subsection 1, will apply to Visiting Faculty members, except that a Visiting Faculty member will be exempt from the service commitments under Article IX, Section A, Subsection 3, unless included in the position profile or mutually agreed to by the College and the Visiting Faculty member. All other aspects of this Agreement shall apply to Visiting Faculty members.
Visiting Faculty. Positions are designated as visiting when the faculty member is on leave from another institution or is replacing a UVI faculty on leave. Visiting faculty are employed by contracts for periods not normally exceeding one academic year. Contracts may be renewed if funding sources and/or other circumstances permit; however, there shall be no presumption that visiting contracts will be renewed. Visiting faculty may apply for an open tenure-track or full-time non-tenure-track position, but there is no presumption of special consideration. All or a portion of years of uninterrupted service in a regular full-time position at the University may be considered towards tenure. The determination of the number of considered years towards tenure will be made in consultation with the faculty member at the time of appointment to a tenure- track position.
Visiting Faculty. Visiting Faculty shall be appointed to the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, Visiting Full Professor, or Visiting Instructor, as determined by the College in its sole discretion. Visiting Faculty shall be appointed to work a full time, fractional, or part time schedule.
