Workplace Aggression. Employees who, in the course of their duties, may be exposed to aggressive conduct shall receive training at the Employer’s expense in recognising and handling such episodes. The Employer shall provide the employee with pertinent information relative to the potential for experiencing physical aggression and/or verbal abuse within any particular workplace. The employee shall be informed of specific instruction on the approach to be taken when providing care for the client. Immediate debriefing and counselling for individuals who have been traumatised will be made available to employees. Where an employee requires time off to attend debriefing it will be without loss of pay. Employees may request a transfer because of physical aggression or verbal abuse. Where repeated incidents of physical aggression or verbal abuse occur, the Occupational Health & Safety Committee, after review of the circumstances, may request a review by the Workers’ Compensation Board.

Workplace Aggression. The Employer will provide training for employees that may, in the performance of their duties, be exposed to aggressive conduct. The Employer will, if it has prior knowledge, alert employees of a potential for experiencing physical aggression and/or verbal abuse within the workplace. In cases where an employee has been physically assaulted or verbally abused, the Employer, following a review of the situation, will make a determination as to the appropriate counselling that is required and provide such counselling. In cases where an employee attends such appropriate counselling, on a day that is a scheduled work day, the employee will be paid for his/her lost time for attending such counselling. Where repeated incidents of physical or verbal abuse occur, the Occupational Health and Safety Committee will review the matter.

Where repeated workplace incidents of physical aggression or verbal abuse occur, the Occupational Health & Safety Committee, after review of the circumstances, may request a review by WorkSafeBC.

Workplace Aggression. (a) The Employer and the bargaining unit agree to cooperate in sharing information on the most appropriate behavioral strategies, communication techniques and intervention methodologies to deal with aggressive clients.
Workplace Aggression. The parties agree that given the nature of the work assigned by the Employer, there is a need to address the issue of Workplace Aggression. Therefore, the Labour Management Committee shall meet to define the terms of reference and process for the handling of such workplace aggression.

Immediate defusing, debriefing and, where deemed appropriate by a qualified medical practitioner, post traumatic counselling for individuals who have been exposed to violence of an unusual nature, including physical assault, will be made available to employees by qualified outside practitioners where such services are available at no cost to the Employer. Where an employee requires time off to attend defusing or debriefing, it will be without a loss of pay. At the request of an employee who has been exposed to violence, including physical aggression of verbal abuse, the parties will meet as soon as possible to determine remedies up to and including transfer. The parties will make every reasonable effort to find a remedy. Once the remedy is agreed it will be implemented within fifteen (15) working days. Where repeated incidents of violence occur, including physical aggression or verbal abuse, the Joint Health & Safety Committee, after review of the circumstances, may request a review by WorkSafeBC. Where an employee has experienced a critical incident related to their work responsibilities, the Employer will assist the employee to obtain WorkSafeBC counselling and such other support as may be reasonably available. An employee in need of assistance may call the WorkSafeBC Critical Incident Response Pager. The Employer will post the current pager contact information at all worksites.
