  • Imports of JI and CDM credits, i.e. Emissions Reduction Units (ERUs) and Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs), can thereby serve as substitutes for both domestic abatement action and international emissions trading.Given the prospects of larger CDM potentials at low cost in developing countries, CDM investments have attracted the attention by industrialized countries for meeting their emissions targets under the Kyoto Protocol.

  • Projects that cut HFC-23 emissions are extremely valuable because they generate enormous volumes of carbon offsets, or in the CDM’s terminology, Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) at very low cost.

  • The Hubei ETS allows companies in the covered industries to use voluntary offset projects that are verified as China Certified Emissions Reductions (CCERs) to cover up to 10% of their targets.

  • Under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol (KP), project-based emissions reductions in developing countries generate these offset credits or Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) which can be used against emissions caps and traded in compliance carbon markets.
