Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States means an interagency committee (i) op- erated pursuant to § 721 of the Defense Production Act of 1950 (50 U.S.C. § 4501 et seq.), as amended, and as implemented by Executive Order 11858, as amended, and the regulations set forth in 31 C.F.R. § 800 and (ii) authorized to (a) review certain real estate transactions by foreign persons in order to determine the effect of such transactions on the national security of the United States and (b) respond to new and emerging threats and vulnerabilities in the context of foreign investments.
