Composite material definition

Composite material means a material composed of several layers of similar or different materials intimately held together at their surfaces by cementing, bonding, cladding, welding, etc. In such a case, the material shall be tested as a composite. When different materials are connected together intermittently, such materials shall not be considered as composite materials and therefore tested separately. Tests confirming the validity of the declaration may be carried out at the discretion of the Technical Service.

  • Source material means: (1) uranium or thorium, or any combination thereof, in any physical or chemical form or (2) ores which contain by weight one-twentieth of one percent (0.05 percent) or more of (i) uranium, (ii) thorium or (iii) any combination thereof. Certain exclusions from fissile material controls are provided in 10 CFR 71.15.

  • Byproduct material means any radioactive material (except special nuclear material) yielded in or made radioactive by exposure to the radiation incident to the process of producing or utilizing special nuclear material.
