Effective dose equivalent. (HE), means the sum of the products of the dose equivalent to each organ or tissue (HT), and the weighting factor (wT,) applicable to each of the body organs or tissues that are irradiated.
Effective dose equivalent means the sum of the products of the absorbed dose and appropriate effectiveness fac- tors. These factors account for dif- ferences in biological effectiveness due to the quality of radiation and its dis- tribution in the body of reference man. The unit of the effective dose equiva- lent is the rem.
