Although sampling in the Levantine Sea, East Sicily and Ionian Sea, Malta, Ligurian Sea, and the Canary Islands were below the target, this was compensated by other areas where the target was exceeded (Balearics, Southern Spain, Tyrrhenian, Norway, Portugal, UK-Ireland and the Central Atlantic), as well as areas where no sampling of adults was originally planned but some samples were finally obtained (Norway and Canada).

Additional analyses (carbon and oxygen stable isotopes) on otoliths of YOY bluefin tuna from Balearic Sea, southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Ionian Sea and Levantine Sea from 2013 are currently ongoing and will be soon incorporated to the existing baseline.
The consortium is made up of 11 entities from 8 EU Member States (Spain, Italy, Malta, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Slovenia and Denmark) and 7 of these Member States (MS) share marine regions and sub-regions (The Western Mediterranean Sea, the Adriatic Sea, the Ionian Sea and the Central Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea).
The project, financed by the Marche Region (Law n.9/2002), sets its goals in the boosting of the Adriatic and Ionian area tourist offer, in the promotion of a new-unique image of the Adriatic-Ionian area as well as integration among the tourist offers on the oppo- site side of the Adriatic and Ionian Sea, in the development of tourism-bound economics in the target Countries (Italy, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Greece, Croatia and Slovenia).
Although the overall target for sampling YOY individuals was met, it needs to be noted that the sampling in most areas that had originally planned to sample YOY (East Sicily and Ionian Sea, Malta, Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Sea) performed below the target, while the sampling in the Levantine Sea was above the target, and interesting samples of YOY in the Atlantic side of the Strait of Gibraltar were obtained.
