New or expectant mothers definition

New or expectant mothers means an employee who is pregnant; who has given birth within the previous six months; or who is breast-feeding. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations require all employers to ensure there are no risks to women in their employ who are new or expectant mothers. Most of the risks in this category have already been controlled by existing legislation such as the Control of Substance Hazardous to Health Regulations and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.
