Recreational mining definition

Recreational mining means mining in a manner that is consistent with a hobby or casual use, including use on public lands set aside or withdrawn from mineral entry for the purpose of recreational mining, or using pans, sluices, rocker boxes, other nonmotorized equipment and dredges with motors of 16 horsepower or less and a suction nozzle of four inches or less in diameter.
Recreational mining means the extraction of minerals that does not require a County, State, or Federal permit of any type, and does not utilize mechanized earth-moving equipment.
Recreational mining means recreational gold panning; hard-rock mineral prospecting or mining using light portable field equipment, such as a hand- operated pick, shovel, pan, earth auger, or a backpack power drill or auger; or suction dredging using a suction dredge with a nozzle intake of six inches or less, powered by an engine of 18 horsepower or less, and pumping no more than 30,000 gallons of water per day.
