South African Police Service (SAPS): The SAPS’s work is mandated by the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No. 68 of 1995) that sets out powers to members of the police services, which include investigation of all crimes, among others corruption.
Indeed, the interim regulations simply endorse the contradictory and ambiguous functions set out in the South African Police Service Act (No. 68 of 1995) and explicitly limit supportive interventions by state departments.
