Virtual LAN definition

Virtual LAN or “VLAN” means a broadcast domain that is partitioned and isolated in a computer network at the data link layer (OSI layer 2).
Virtual LAN means a logical group of nodes that appear to be on the same LAN irrespective of the configuration of the underlying physical network.
