Working out of class definition

Working out of class means an employee performing assigned duties not normally a part of his/her job classification.
Working out of class means being temporarily assigned to and performing the duties and responsibilities of another classification, in accordance with the standards in rule 4-5 [Working out of Class].

  • Working out of class assignments are not to be used in lieu of seeking approval for filling a vacant position, nor shall it be used for the sole purpose of paying an employee at a higher class in circumvention of the requirements set forth by the Civil Service Commission.

  • Working out of class is a temporary job assignment, paid on a shift to shift or day to day basis, and shall not be considered a provisional appointment.
