Sick Leave Accrual Full-time employees will accrue eight (8) hours of sick leave in a calendar month. Part- time employees will accrue sick leave credit on the same proportional basis that their employment schedule bears to a full-time schedule, up to a maximum of eight (8) hours in a calendar month.
Sick Leave Pool is intended to provide security after all other insurance benefits have been exhausted, by allowing employees to buy insurance for extended illness, or other disability. When "buying" pool days, employees convert earned days on a one (1) to three (3) basis. Similar to purchasing insurance, the employee may pick a given number of days to exchange for coverage in case of extended disability. Pool days are available for use only under the conditions listed below, and are not eligible for payout at retirement or termination.
Leave Accrual After the first 30 days of active military service in any one calendar year, employees shall not accrue City-paid vacation, holiday, or sick leave benefits or other forms of paid leave; provided, however, that any public employee on military leave for intermittent training periods shall continue to accrue the same vacation, sick, and holiday leave up to a maximum period of 180 cumulative days per calendar year as if the employee had not been on military leave.
Sick Leave Entitlement A permanent full-time employee will earn paid sick leave at the rate of one day per month. Part-time employees will be entitled to sick leave credits on a pro rata basis. Sick leave will accumulate to a total of 15 working days. Note: Employees who currently have more than 15 days credited to their sick leave bank will not earn sick leave until such time as their sick leave bank falls below 15 days.
