Common use of A Probationary Appointment Clause in Contracts

A Probationary Appointment. is an Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor leading to consideration for the simultaneous granting of Tenure and Promotion to the rank of Associate Professor, or an Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor leading to consideration for the granting of Tenure. 1.2.1 Such an Appointment is open to applicants inside and outside the University, in accord with the Article Employment Equity. A Probationary Appointment is for a specified period to permit mutual appraisal for both the Member and the University; it implies that the University will give serious consideration to the granting of Tenure in accord with the provisions of the Article Promotion and Tenure. It does not imply that the granting of Tenure is inevitable.
