Activities of Stewards. Designated and certified stewards shall be granted reasonable time off, with pay, in order to investigate and/or present grievances to the Employer or engage in non-contract problem solving during their normal working hours. Such stewards, however, shall not leave their workstations without first obtaining the permission of their immediate supervisor and shall notify their immediate supervisor upon returning to work. The permission of the supervisor shall not be denied without good cause. In the event an employee requests the services of a xxxxxxx who is not readily available, the Employer shall grant a reasonable amount of time to secure such services. In no event will the Employer be responsible for compensating a xxxxxxx who is performing services at any time other than their regularly scheduled working hours. When the Parties agree that it is mutually beneficial to have an officer of the Union participate in the presentation and/or investigation of grievances, such shall also be authorized time off with pay for this purpose. Stewards and other representatives of the Union shall not interfere in any way with the Employer's operation or with the performance of work by its employees. Nothing in this subdivision, however, shall be construed to limit the proper presentation of grievances provided for by this subdivision. While the City of Minneapolis and the Union recognize that the process may be adversarial, the parties expect that all participants conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner. Stewards shall be allowed up to three (3) compensated days off each year to attend Union sponsored training events, so long as minimum staffing levels are maintained. Such training shall be scheduled with the Employer at least thirty (30) days in advance of the event.
