After Family and Medical Leave is exhausted, or instead of Family and Medical Leave. an employee may request straight leave for continued parental leave under section “H” of this Article. This leave will be without pay or other benefits, except that medical insurance benefits will be extended for a total of five (5) months or until June 30, whichever is the lesser period. The duration of such leave shall be no more than twelve (12) consecutive months and shall automatically terminate on June 30 in the school year closest to the end of the twelve-month period. An extension of straight leave without pay or other benefits may be granted, not to exceed an additional twelve months.
