After Wedderburn. The Question of the Origins of Inaugurated Resurrection Xxxxxxxxxx’x study appears to have led to a sea-change on the question of dying and rising with Xxxxxx. The views of both the Religionsgeschichtliche Schule and those who saw Xxxx as countering an earlier Hellenistic-Christian view have now been laid to rest. But where did the concept of an inaugurated resurrection come from? The fact that, to my knowledge, no full-length study of the background of inaugurated resurrection has been attempted since Xxxxxxxxxx’x book shows just how effectively he has laid the views highlighted above to rest.83 Romans 6 does indeed not seem to contain any evidence of polemic against a previous, enthusiastic view of baptism. Additionally, Xxxxxxxxxx is surely correct that later followers of Xxxx (the authors of Colossians and Ephesians) would be unlikely to intentionally revive a position which Xxxx himself had strongly countered. Most, it seems, would agree with Wedderburn on this. However, that is not to say that the subject of inaugurated resurrection is no longer hotly debated. On the contrary, there is currently a xxxxx split in scholarship between those who suggest that Xxxx himself put resurrection exclusively into the future and those who think that he held to a belief in inaugurated resurrection.
