Appointment of Alternate Staff Chief. The Staff Chief Engineer may request the assignment of an Alternate Staff Chief Engineer on his/her vessel. This assignment will normally be filled in Chief Engineers’ seniority order from an approved list of qualified Alternate Staff Chief Engineer candidates. However, absent such assignment, there is no requirement to compensate any employee at the Alternate Staff Chief Engineer rate of pay. When the Employer designates an Alternate Staff Chief Engineer’s position(s), employees on an approved list may bid by Chief Engineer seniority for the open position. To qualify for placement on the approved list, employees must meet the following requirements:
