BEREAVEMENT LEAVE ELIGIBILITY. Employees are eligible for a paid leave of absence of up to three days for a death in the immediate family for purposes of attending the funeral or attending to funeral related matters in the same week. Extensions of the three day bereavement period may be granted by the Director due to the close nature of the family relationship (e.g. spouse, parent, or child) or in the event long distance travel is involved. However, in no event shall bereavement leave exceed five working days. The Director retains the discretion to grant additional leave charged to the employee’s paid leave bank depending on the circumstances. In the event of the death of a SECC Employee, the Director depending on scheduling may grant bereavement leave to the departmental employees to attend funeral and visitation services.
