Best interests of children. 4.5.1 When formulating this Procedure, the Local Authority has considered the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, in accordance with the Children Act 2002, section 11.
4.5.2 This Procedure and administration if will accord the objectives and actions set out in the Local Authority’s joint working protocol agreed by housing services and children services.
4.5.3 When making decisions about individual applications for an allocation of social rented housing, the best interests of any children involved will be treated as a primary (but not overriding) consideration. Active involvement from the Local Authority’s Children Services department will be sought when making decisions about housing allocations there is involvement from the Local Authority’s children services. A discussion about the prioritisation of applicants will take place prior to the introduction of the scheme. If there is some uncertainty about whether an applicant should qualify specifically due to matters relating to children services’ duties, the Children Services department will be consulted.
