(1) a serious illness or injury that incapacitates a unit member for a period of ten (10) or more consecutive duty days, or (2) an illness or injury that incapacitates a member of the unit member’s immediate family, as defined in Section 17.1.1, requiring the unit member to take time off from work for ten (10) or more consecutive duty days to care for that family member.
