Changing Effort. ‌ The fishery is principally an artisanal based fishery. This is partially due to the lack of dock infrastructure in The Gambia. However, once the new dock facility is constructed, it is likely that industrial boats will begin to land their catch here if incentives are high enough. This will increase the supply of fish directly to the processors; however, this may also supplant the small scale fishermen who tend to be more inconsistent with the supply and quality of fish, especially during the religious holidays. Fish product traceability will be an important component of the MSC label. There will be a need for strong enforcement of the MSC artisanal caught fish and traceability on the part of the processing plants that will ensure that at sea transfer does not occur, and product is kept separate at the processing site.
