The main characteristics of FRR as applied in the Nordic LFC block are: • FRR aims to replace FCR activation and to restore the balance of the LFC block respecting potential congestions in the grid; • FRR is provided by balancing service providers (BSPs), who shall activate FRR when instructed by their TSO; • The TSOs’ instructions to activate FRR can be: o Automatically (for aFRR), as an instruction of the TSOs’ Load Frequency Controller; o Manually (for mFRR), as instructed by the TSOs’ dispatchers.
