Chlorinating Distribution Mains. DELETE – “When indicated on the plans or when, because of unsatisfactory results by flushing alone, the Commissioner has issued orders to disinfect the main by chlorination, the Contractor shall provide a tight-sheathed excavation around the main at the point of chlorination as directed at no cost to the City. After the excavation is prepared, the City will tap the main and connect and operate a chlorinator without cost to the Contractor. When a satisfactory chlorine residual has been obtained, the Contractor, after a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of 72 hours, shall proceed with the flushing of the main as specified in Section 5.18.2.” ADD – “All newly installed water mains require chlorination by the contractor. Chlorination procedures are specified in Milwaukee Water Works Special Provisions.” DELETE – SECTION 5.18.9
