Commencement of Pregnancy Leave. i) The pregnant employee shall advise the Employer a minimum of three (3) weeks in advance of the date on which the pregnancy leave of absence is to commence. ii) The period of pregnancy leave shall commence up to nine (9) weeks prior to expected date of delivery. However, the employee may request postponement of the commencement of pregnancy leave for any period approved in writing by a qualified medical practitioner of the employee’s choice. iii) Once pregnancy leave has commenced the employee may not return to work during the six (6) week period following the date of delivery, unless the employee requests in writing a shorter period a minimum of one (1) week in advance of the intended date of return and provides a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner of the employee’s choice attesting to the employee’s ability to resume work.
