Competency. (i) Within constraints set by management, employees exercise initiative in the application of professional practices demonstrating independent discretion and judgment, which may have effect beyond a work area. An employee at this level is expected to carry a high proportion of tasks involving complex, specialised or professional functions. (ii) An employee may independently relate existing policy to work assignments or rethink the way a specific body of knowledge is applied in order to solve problems. In professional or technical positions, the employee may be a recognised authority in a specialised area.
