Criteria for Academic Designation, Tenure and Promotion. 6.10.1 The varied nature of the academic and professional disciplines within the University requires flexibility in the nature, assessment and weighting of the criteria for tenure and promotion. Boundaries between categories are not always clear-cut, and the following descriptions of categories are intended only as guidelines for the development of more specific criteria. In developing specific criteria, the principle of equity in tenure and promotion shall be considered. When a member takes leave under Articles 12.3.4 and 12.4 the time period for tenure-track shall be extended by the same time period of the approved leave. 6.10.2 Members with a tripartite appointment who apply for academic designation, tenure and promotion shall be assessed in each of the following four (4) categories: 1. Academic Qualifications 2. Teaching or Professional Role 3. Scholarship
