Current Design Activities. Current design activities include mechanical and optical layouts for the Gregorian feed, finalizing the instrument feed to the coudé lab, updates to the telescope structure, enclosure thermal design, including a modified vent arrangement, thermal design and analysis for the interface to the coudé lab, and performance updates based upon the latest site testing data. We have had a major simplification of the coudé instrument area and feed arrangement. This occurred as a result of comments in the CoDR and was implemented after the construction proposal submission. We have converted the lab from a two level to a one level lab while maintaining the same available area. The feed for instrumentation associated with this is more compact and simpler to direct to multiple instrument stations. It includes a simplified upgrade path to future MCAO use, which will require replacing some mirrors, but will not require additional mirrors.
