Common use of Demotion and Downward Reclassification Clause in Contracts

Demotion and Downward Reclassification. An employee who is demoted or whose position is reclassified to a class in a lower pay range shall initially be paid at the same salary step in the range for the lower position which had been received in the higher position, unless the City Manager shall determine that it be in the best interests of Management to assign a higher authorized salary step or unless he/she previously held a higher step in the lower class, in which case he/she shall be paid at the higher salary step.
