Common use of DEPARTMENT CHAIR DUTIES Clause in Contracts

DEPARTMENT CHAIR DUTIES. 1. Department Chair duties and responsibilities are articulated in Appendix D. 2. Department Chairs shall begin their tem effective September 1. 3. Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, and Business and Law department chairs shall be granted a minimum of one-third release time from teaching in two quarters. English Composition and Literature, Mathematics and Social Sciences department chairs shall be granted a minimum of one third release time from teaching in three quarters. Health Professions, Technology, Academic Skills and Resources and World Languages shall be granted a minimum of one third release from teaching in one quarter. 4. Department Chairs’ contracts will include an additional two (2) days (beyond the 174 contract) and will be paid at the Pro-rata rate during summer quarter. These days shall include additional work days during the normal academic year, days worked during summer quarter and/or additional hours required to perform their duties during the standard work week. 5. The length of service is two (2) years with possible reappointment to one additional term. Appointments beyond two-terms (4 years) may occur if no other departmental faculty are nominated to serve as department chair.
