Department Chairpersons. 17.1 In each elementary, middle and senior high school, the need for department chairpersons/team leaders shall be determined by the principal. Each such department chairperson/team leader shall be appointed for one
(1) academic year. If possible, such appointment should be made prior to the end of the preceding academic year. Teachers shall have the right to refuse such appointment. Team leaders will have coordinating and planning functions for their teams and shall serve as liaison between their teams and the principal. They shall not be considered administrative employees.
17.2 When feasible, and after consultation with them, department chairpersons and team leaders will be provided with release time commensurate with the responsibilities assigned to them by their principal.
Department Chairpersons. The principal shall designate a high school librarian to serve as department chairperson, and such chairperson shall attend all school department chairperson meetings.
Department Chairpersons. A. The Administration may select each year from among the school faculty, Department Chairpersons in such teaching areas it may deem appropriate.
B. The Department Chairperson shall be responsible for providing leadership in departmental coordination including coordination of programs and materials, proper sequencing of objectives, and promotion and development of effective instructional techniques for department staff members.
C. Elementary schools shall be represented by at least four members unless structure is modified by curriculum council or the Board.
D. When appropriate, the title K-12 Department Chairperson shall be used.
Department Chairpersons. 16.11.1 Department Chairpersons who receive a stipend shall be chosen from the current staff by the following process:
16.11.2 Candidates for such positions will be interviewed by the School Personnel Committee (that shall consist of a member of the department for which the person is being interviewed), which will rank the candidates they deem qualified in order of preference.
16.11.3 The Personnel Committee shall make a final recommendation to the Supervisor, who shall make the final decision.
16.11.4 This process shall take place during the month of May of each school year. Chairpersons shall be appointed to a one-year term beginning on the day after the last day of school for students.
16.11.5 In schools where department or grade-level chairpersons do not receive stipends, Teachers in each department or grade level shall be free to elect their own chairperson from among themselves by majority vote in secret ballot of all Teachers in the department or grade level. Upon his/her election, the elected chairperson will notify the building administrator in writing of his/her chairpersonship. Said election shall be held during the month of May of each school year. DCPS shall not be involved in any part of the election procedure described in this paragraph.
16.11.6 Specific duties, responsibilities and requirements shall be developed for department and grade-level chairpersons by the Office of Human Resources.
Department Chairpersons. A. Department Chairpersons shall be recommended for appointment by election by the members of the department. Upon election, the recommendation for appointment shall be forwarded to the President who may consult with the Xxxx on the recommendation. The usual term of service for a department chair shall be three (3) academic years. In the event individuals from outside the department are to be nominated, the Faculty Committee and all voting members of the department shall be provided with comprehensive, relevant information regarding those candidates’ qualifications.
B. In the event that the President rejects an elected individual, the President or his/her designee shall provide the reasons to the department no later than thirty (30) days after date of the election. The department will then hold another election as soon as practicable.
C. The Faculty Committee referred to above shall consist of five (5) members of the involved department elected by the membership of the department, unless the involved department consists of five (5) or fewer members, in which case the Faculty Committee shall consist of all the members of the involved department.
D. Terms of office begin on July l. Elections occur in the spring of the preceding academic year and shall normally be completed by April 30.
Department Chairpersons. A. The Administration may select each year from among the school faculty, Department Chairpersons in such teaching areas it may deem appropriate. The administration and teacher will mutually agree upon the expectations of the position and a timeline for completion. If issues arise regarding the performance of duties, the administration will meet with the teacher and association representative to determine an appropriate course of action. The administration reserves the right to remove the teacher from the position and to pay them a prorated rate based upon the amount of hours completed.
B. The Department Chairperson shall be responsible for providing leadership in departmental coordination including, but not limited to, coordination of programs and materials, proper sequencing of objectives, and promotion and development of effective instructional techniques for department staff members.
C. The Elementary School may be represented by grade-level or subject area.
D. Each Department Chair will be paid a stipend of $700.00.
Department Chairpersons. Each academic department shall have a Chairperson. The provisions governing the qualifications, selection, term of office and duties of the Chairperson are set forth in Article 4 of the University Statutes and the procedures for the removal of the Chairperson are set forth in Article 10 of the Statutes of the University. The Chairperson remains a member of the faculty during his/her service as a Chair. 2
Department Chairpersons. 15-1. Department Chairpersons or Heads are selected by the secondary school principals or directors as appropriate. The number of Department Heads shall be determined by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent. The recommendation shall be based upon one (1) or more staff members required to constitute a department. The total number of team leaders at the middle level is determined by the projected number of enrolled students for the upcoming year. One full team leader position is provided for every 100 students (rounding down from 50 and up from 51). The number of team leaders is adjusted annually. A minimum of five (5) team leaders will be provided for every school should enrollment projections be less than 451. 15-1-2. Department Chairs with departments of one or two will be placed on level 8 with their appropriate step.
Department Chairpersons. 1. All middle schools will have a total of nine department chairpersons/curriculum facilitators. Five of these curricular areas will be consistent for each middle school including: Language Arts Social Science Mathematics Science Physical Education The four remaining curricular areas represented by facilitators are to be determined by each site based on site specific needs.
2. All comprehensive high schools will have a total of ten (10) chairpersons. Nine of these departments will be from the departments listed below: Career Technical Education English Math Physical Education Science Social Studies Special Education Visual and Performing Arts World Languages
3. The continuation high school will have a total of two department chairpersons. The curricular areas represented are to be determined by the site.
4. Open department chair positions shall be filled collaboratively through a site based process administered by the principal.
5. The district may, at its sole discretion, maintain the position of Elementary Curriculum facilitator. This amount shall be adjusted proportionally for less than a full time position. (Percentage of Basic Salary Schedule Step lA)

Department Chairpersons. A. Under the direction of the xxxx, the department chair provides leadership for an assigned academic department or for a group of departments. The normal duties of a department chair are as follows:
1. Establish and maintain a long term vision for the department by assisting the xxxx with curriculum development, departmental development and planning, goal setting, and budgeting.
2. Provide department leadership through excellent communication, both within the department and between department and administration.
3. Serve as “point person” for the department with regard to the state agencies, professional organizations, accrediting bodies, community groups, and other external contacts such as other colleges and universities.
4. Plan, schedule, and convene departmental meetings and development activities.
5. Coordinate the program evaluation process and prepare the program evaluation report with the assistance of the Xxxx.
