Common use of Department Chairpersons’ Responsibilities Clause in Contracts

Department Chairpersons’ Responsibilities. (a) The Chairperson is “primus inter pares” in an academic department, provides academic and administrative leadership within the Department, represents the Department to other areas of the University, and works to achieve, in cooperation with the Department, Xxxx and other bodies of the University, progress and development in all matters affecting the academic life of the Department, the Faculty and the University. In representing the Department, the Chairperson will put forward the view of the Department. (b) Although responsible for communication, organization and administration within the Department, the Chairperson remains a scholar for whom teaching and research are also fundamental responsibilities. (c) Basic departmental policy, developed within the framework of Faculty and University policies, will be established and approved by the Department. The Chairperson shall execute such policies and be responsible administratively to the Xxxx. (d) In keeping with the concept of 'primus inter pares' the Chairperson shall make available to Department members all information relevant to the organization, administration and representation of the Department.
