Disaster Service Volunteer. Upon approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer and the appropriate unit supervisor, a bargaining unit member who is a certified disaster service volunteer of the American Red Cross may be granted leave without pay or vacation leave from his/her work not to exceed one hundred sixty (160) hours in each year to participate in specialized disaster relief services for the American Red Cross, upon the request of the American Red Cross for the services of that employee. The University will waive any notice requirements for using vacation leave for this purpose, provided operational necessity is not impaired.
