Educational Assistance Program. A. The parties to this Agreement recognize the value of higher educational training and the benefits which accrue to both the individual and the Xxxxxxxx City Fire Division from such academic development. B. Accordingly, the City of Xxxxxxxx will provide tuition reimbursement to individual members of the Division of Fire who participate in university level courses during off-duty periods. Reimbursement of tuition and book costs shall be based upon student course performance in accordance with the following schedule. “A” letter grade or numerical equivalent 100% “B” letter grade or numerical equivalent 95% “C” letter grade or numerical equivalent 60% Less than “C” letter grade or equivalent 0% 8. Course participation shall be during the employee’s off-duty hours. Participation in course study shall not be considered as hours worked nor shall there be compensation paid for travel time. 9. Upon completion of an eligible course, the employee shall submit to the Chief of Fire or his designated representative a copy of the course grade report, a receipt for necessary textbooks, and a billing statement issued by the university indicating the cost of the course instruction. Reimbursement under provisions of the Educational Assistance Program will be made to the employee upon satisfactory completion of the above requirements.

No reimbursement will be given for portfolio or non-traditional course work; provided however, that members may enroll in correspondence programs offered by educational institutions as defined in (2) above, so long as the courses involve a proctored testing procedure and a letter grade of A, B, C, D or Pass/Fail (or percentage equivalents). 4. Reimbursement eligibility shall only include the cost of course tuition and required textbooks onlyup to a maximum of six (6) semester hours or nine (9) quarter hours per quarter or semester. Enrollment fees and other service charges shall be the responsibility of the employee. Textbooks necessary for the course of instruction shall remain the property of the employeemember. 45. Educational Assistance Program. A. 34.1 The parties educational reimbursement program is offered to this Agreement recognize encourage employees to improve their present job skills, thereby increasing their productive value to the value City. Such a program will also assure the establishment of higher educational training and a quality work force, assisting employees in preparing for future advancement within the benefits City. The scope of the program does not include special seminars, or "short courses" of a few days duration which accrue will continue to both the be considered on an individual and departmental training basis as in-service training. The following provisions are established to govern the Xxxxxxxx City Fire Division from such academic developmentadministration of the City's Education Assistance Program: A. Application for Educational Assistance may be made by any full-time permanent employee who has completed the designated probationary period. B. AccordinglyApplications will not be considered if the employee is eligible for or receiving funds for the same course from any other source (GI Xxxx, the City of Xxxxxxxx will provide tuition reimbursement scholarships, vocational rehabilitation, etc.). C. Applications are to individual members of the Division of Fire who participate in university level courses during off-duty periods. The course/degree must be pre-approved submitted for approval by the Fire Chief department and must be job related or Human Resources Director in advance of beginning the course and only for course work directly related to the employee’s current 's present job or directly related to a promotional position. Educational Assistance Program. A. Section 1 The parties Company encourages employees to this Agreement recognize obtain additional education in their fields of endeavor to develop and prepare employees for advancement opportunities and to increase the potential value of higher employees to the Company. Thus the Company will provide reimbursement for 75% of out of pocket expenses for tuition, lab fees, and book expenses (not including registration fees, transportation, etc.) to eligible employees satisfactorily completing approved courses as defined below. (a) To be eligible for educational training assistance an employee must: (a) Be a full-time employee who has six (6) months of seniority at the time of enrollment for, and completion of, the course; or (b) Be a laid off employee who has at least six (6) months seniority at the time of enrollment for, and completion of, the course. The course(s) taken must be less than six (6) months in duration. The employee must be recalled to full time status within six (6) months of completing the course. (2) Pay all expenses of the course prior to receiving reimbursement for such course. (3) Receive written approval of the specific course from the Human Resources Department in advance. (4) Submit a tuition receipt and evidence that the course has been satisfactorily completed with a grade of at least “C” or its equivalent. (5) If an employee’s shift is changed due to a Company transfer and the benefits which accrue employee is forced to both drop the individual and course they are currently enrolled in, they will be reimbursed for the Xxxxxxxx City Fire Division from such academic developmentcourse. The employee will make every reasonable effort to transfer their class schedule. B. Accordingly(b) To be eligible for reimbursement under the Educational Assistance Program, a course of study must: (1) Be offered by an accredited college, university, or technical school. The Union will be notified in advance of Fire or his designated representative scheduled schooling and those in attendance. When the Company schedules voluntary training opportunities for employees to expand their skills in their current classification and labor grade, they will receive pay to a copy maximum of eight (8) hours per day based on their current hourly rate, including shift premium. Employees who are not in the affected classification and labor grade may request to attend such training in order to qualify themselves for advancement, provided unslotted openings are available, without pay. (b) The Company may at times schedule non-paid general knowledge courses to provide technical training for employees to advance themselves. Examples: Blueprint reading, use of the course grade reportmicrometer, statistical process control. (c) It is understood that new knowledge being introduced into the shop because of new technology may initially be scheduled under paragraph (a) above, but that eventually such knowledge will become a receipt prerequisite for necessary textbooksemployees desiring to enter a classification for the first time and that the employee has the obligation at that time to obtain said knowledge on his own, and a billing statement issued by the university indicating the cost of the course instruction. In addition to Article XIII, Section 1, when an employee with five (5) or more years seniority is laid off for twelve (12) consecutive months he will be entitled to education and retraining according to the following: 2. Courses will be approved by the Company which contribute to or enhance the employee’s ability to obtain other employment provided that the employee upon satisfactory completion begins the approved course(s) within one (1) year after eligibility. 3. Approved courses will normally be given at schools which are accredited by recognized regional or state accrediting agencies and may include: a. Occupational or vocational skill development; b. Fundamental reading or numerical skill improvement; c. High school diploma or equivalency achievement; and d. College level career oriented courses. 4. An employee will be reimbursed up to a maximum as permitted by IRS for authorized expenses which are incurred within two (2) years of eligibility provided a grade of C or better is received in the above requirementscourse. Authorized expenses include verified tuition and necessary books. 5. This section does not apply to terminated employees.
