Common use of Excavation and Trenching Clause in Contracts

Excavation and Trenching. All trenches 1.2 m (4 ft) or more in depth, shall at all times besuppliedwithatleastoneladderforeach30m(100ft)inlengthorfractionthereof.Laddershallextendf rom bottom of the trench to at least 90 cm (3 ft) above surface of the ground. Side of the trencheswhich are 1.5 m (5 ft) or more in depth shall be stepped back to give suitable slope or securely held bytimberbracing,soastoavoidthedangerofsidescollapsing.Theexcavatedmaterialsshallnotbeplac edwithin 1.5 m (5 ft) of the edges of the trench or half of the depth of the trench, whichever is more.Cutting shall be done from top to bottom. Under no circumstances, undermining or undercutting shallbe done.
