Common use of Extra Trips Clause in Contracts

Extra Trips. 1. The Transportation Supervisor shall post and maintain an extra trip list. The trip list shall include, in order of seniority, the names of all drivers (full- and part-time), except that any driver in the Transportation Department who does not have a current Class B CDL is ineligible for inclusion on the list (and will not be assigned to an extra trip except in an emergency situation for which the driver is legally qualified to provide coverage). All drivers shall remain on the extra trip list unless the driver requests to have his/her name removed from the list. 2. Available drivers will be considered to be those drivers who do not currently hold a trip which is in conflict with the trip being bid. A driver will have a minimum of one (1) hour to respond to the personal contact regarding the extra trip. Should a request form arrive for a trip scheduled within seventy-two (72) hours of receipt of the request form, such trip shall be considered an emergency. Emergency extra trips shall be assigned in seniority order to available drivers as described above. For emergency trips, the District shall only be required to attempt one (1) contact with each available driver. The driver must immediately accept or decline the trip. If there is less than two (2) hours advance notice for a trip, it may be assigned to any available driver on the extra trip list 3. If a driver on the extra trip list accepts an extra trip and then surrenders that trip, the driver will be ineligible to take another extra trip at the next two (2) weekly trip meetings following surrender of the trip. Exceptions for emergency situations may be granted by the supervisor. If, within the same school year, the driver again accepts an extra trip and then surrenders that trip, the driver will be ineligible to take another extra trip for the remainder of that school year. Exceptions for emergency situations may be granted by the supervisor. If an extra trip changes by more than two hours or the date changes, the driver can surrender the trip, and that driver will be eligible to bid on other trips at subsequent trip meetings. It is mutually recognized that the operation of this Paragraph is not disciplinary in nature. 4. All extra trip requests shall be filled in the order in which they are received in the transportation office. 5. Any time a driver accepts or declines an extra trip, that driver shall be charged on the appropriate list. If the extra trip conflicts with the driver's regular route, the driver shall, at his/her option, have the right to forfeit all or part of his/her regular paid route and take the extra trip. 6. Should the number of buses needed for extra trips on any given day exceed the number of buses available in the District, excluding route and necessary spare buses, the Transportation Supervisor shall have the right to deny drivers their right to waive all or part of their regular routes. 7. If a driver reports to the garage to drive an extra trip, and the trip is cancelled, the driver will be paid for two (2) hours at his/her extra trip rate of pay. 8. On extra trips where a portion of the student participants are scheduled to return prior to the other students, the driver(s) returning early shall be selected as follows: a. A volunteer will be solicited first, then b. The least senior driver shall return first with the other driver(s) returning in ascending seniority order.

When a driver provides training to other drivers, the time required to provide the training shall be counted toward the forty (40) hour limit per week. If bidding on two trips within the same day, the trips must have a 2-hour separation between estimated return time on the first trip and estimated leave time on the second trip. Exceptions may be made by the Administration when the trip is shuttling classes to an event. For situations in which the Administration has decided to award overtime, the Transportation Supervisor will create a list of drivers interested in working overtime and he/she will distribute the available overtime on a rotating basis, as referenced in Section 13.05. All drivers will have the opportunity to inform the Transportation Supervisor of their regular routesintent to be included on the list. A driver may ask to be included on the list or removed from the list at any point during the year. The list to be used for the rotating basis will be distributed to drivers by the Transportation Supervisor on the first student day of school each year and then upon any change that occurs throughout the year. Situations that are described in Section 13.04 H are exempt from the rotating basis described above. 7. If a D. No driver reports may be excused from his/her regular run to the garage to drive accept an extra trip, except an eight (8) hour or longer trip. Drivers on overnight trips will be guaranteed at least eight (8) hours pay for the day before and after each night of an overnight trip and appropriate lodging furnished by the sponsor. Drivers who drive four or more but less than six hours shall have priority for trips of eight or more but less than ten hours. Six-hour drivers will have priority for trips of ten or more hours. E. Once a trip is cancelledhas been awarded, the driver will be paid may not change regarding that trip. However, if the estimated duration for two a trip increases by three (23) or more hours at least twenty four (24) hours at his/her extra trip rate of pay. 8. On extra trips where a portion of the student participants are scheduled to return prior to the other studentstrip departure, the driver(s) returning early shall be selected as follows: a. A volunteer driver has the option to decline the trip and remain eligible for another trip per the posting procedures. If a regular driver has been awarded a trip and that trip is cancelled at a time that does not qualify the driver for the two hour call in work, that driver gets first chance at the next regular trip posting that does not conflict with the driver’s regular hours. If two or more individuals have received cancelled trip tickets during the same posting period, classification seniority will be solicited first, then b. The least senior driver shall return first the deciding factor in order of redeeming the cancelled trip tickets. Cancelled trip tickets must be redeemed for like trips (same number of hours or less) no later than the next posting of trips not conflicting with the other driver(sdriver’s regular hours. If there are no like trips or there are more cancelled tickets to be redeemed than available trips, tickets that cannot be redeemed will carry over to the next regular posting. All drivers shall remain have a key to the gate system. D. There shall be a separate restroom facility for the female drivers or an outside door. E. All extra trips shall be posted in a reasonable advance time on the bulletin board in the drivers room normally by Friday of the week preceding the run or trip. Any changes or additions must come directly from the Transportation Director or the Superintendent. Permission to make trades must receive prior approval of 24 hours. Since Bargaining unit drivers shall not be called at home unless the necessity for a driver falls under an emergency; it is the driver’s responsibility to view the lists posted for extra trips. Buses shall be assigned for extra trips. F. All extra trips the driver shall be paid on the following schedule: 1. Groups of 10 or less need not be assigned. 2. Trips of 1 to 5 hours in length shall be paid at the rate of $60.00. Additional hours over 5 shall be paid at a rate of twelve dollars ($12.00). Effective October 2020, trips of 1 to 5 hours in length shall be paid at a rate of sixty-five dollars ($65.00). Additional hours over 5 shall be paid at a rate of thirteen dollars ($13.00). 3. Drivers will be allowed to trade runs with proper notification to the Transportation Director. G. Provisions of Article 20 shall not be subject to the Grievance Procedure. H. Drivers who report for an extra trip and that extra trip is cancelled by Chesapeake Union Exempted Village Schools will be paid two (2) hours at twelve dollars ($12.00) per hour reporting pay. Effective October 2020, drivers who report for an extra trip and that extra trip is cancelled by Chesapeake Union Exempted Village Schools will be paid two (2) hours at thirteen dollars ($13.00) per hour reporting pay. I. Drivers assigned to the vocational run shall receive an extra supplemental payment of $17.00 per day. J. Bargaining unit members must sign up for extra trips between August 1st and September 15th of each school year. Trips will be awarded under paragraph A. above. Extra Trips. 1. The Transportation Supervisor shall post and maintain an extra trip list. The trip list Extra Trip Roster which shall include, in order of seniority, bear the names of all regular drivers (full- and part-time), except that any driver listed in descending order of job classification seniority. This roster shall be posted on a bulletin board in the Transportation Department who does not have a current Class B CDL is ineligible for inclusion on bus garage in an area accessible to all drivers to view. Trips shall be posted at least five (5) days in advance, when reasonably possible, and shall indicate the list (date, time, trip and location. Trips will not be assigned to an extra trip except in an emergency situation for which the driver is legally qualified to provide coverage)on a seniority rotation basis. All athletic teams with more than nine (9) participants shall be transported by buses and drivers shall remain on of the extra trip list unless the driver requests to have his/her name removed from the listLordstown Local School District. 2. A weekly trip meeting will be held at which available trips, including trips approved for bid a. An exception to this “in the previous week, will be bid in seniority order (except as otherwise specified in Paragraph 3 below) by drivers whose names are on the extra trip list. Prior to noon on the workday immediately preceding the meeting, any driver rotation order” may surrender arise if a trip that has already been assigned and that trip will be added to were received by the trips being bid at that week’s meeting. A current list shall be maintained in the transportation office showing available trips and trips already bid and assigned. Emergency extra trips shall be assigned in seniority order to available drivers as described above. For emergency trips, the District shall only be required to attempt one (1) contact with each available driver. The driver must immediately accept or decline the trip. If there the Supervisor is less than unable to notify the driver of the trip, he/she may then proceed through the list until a driver is found. Any trip received within two (2) hours advance notice for of the time of the trip will be given to the first available driver. b. Any trip taken under 1(a) at the time it is offered will count as the driver’s next trip. 2. Extra trips will be offered to regular drivers on a trip, it may be seniority rotation basis before they are assigned to any substitute drivers. 3. In the event of cancellation of field trips already assigned to a driver, the driver assigned shall be eligible for the next available trip. A driver on who arrives at the bus garage or at the point of departure and then is told the extra trip list 3. If a driver on the extra trip list accepts an extra trip and then surrenders that trip, the driver will be ineligible to take another extra trip at the next two (2) weekly trip meetings following surrender of the trip. Any time a driver accepts or declines an extra trip, that driver shall be charged on the appropriate list. If the extra trip conflicts with the driver's regular route, the driver shall, at his/her option, have the right to forfeit all or part of his/her regular paid route and take the extra trip. 6. Should the number of buses needed for extra trips on any given day exceed the number of buses available in the District, excluding route and necessary spare buses, the Transportation Supervisor shall have the right to deny drivers their right to waive all or part of their regular routes. 7. If a driver reports to the garage to drive an extra trip, and the trip is cancelled, the driver canceled will be paid for a minimum of two (2) hours at his/her the extra trip rate rate. 4. The assignment of payextra trips shall not conflict with a driver’s regular route(s) or duties unless there is no substitute available. 5. All drivers shall remain with the event for the entire duration of the trip except in emergencies. Drivers may leave the event for meals upon notification of the person in charge of the event. 6. Expenses incurred on extra trips (e.g. turnpike fees, entrance fees, meals, etc.) shall be borne by the group sponsoring the trip in advance of the trip. 7. There shall be a two (2) hour minimum time for all Extra Trips. 8. On Effective July 1, 2016, the Extra Trip rate for regularly employed drivers will be their regular hourly rate. Substitute drivers will continue to be paid at the substitute rate established by the Board. Current employees who substitute on extra trips where a portion of the student participants are scheduled to return prior to the other students, the driver(s) returning early shall be selected as follows: a. A volunteer will be solicited first, thenpaid by their hourly contracted rate. b. 9. Extra Trips. When the District requires bargaining unit members to drive extra trips that require use of a school bus, the following procedure will be followed: 1. The Transportation Supervisor Extra trips will be rotated among those bargaining unit drivers who have regularly assigned runs and qualify [qualified means has been driving a regular run for 60 worked days] and have indicated a desire in writing on the appropriate form to drive extra trips. 2. Once this form is completed and the trips begin, there will be no "late entries" for a driver who changes his/her mind. 3. New drivers when assigned a regular run will be entered on the trip roster if they desire and qualify, and they will be assessed the number of trip hours equal to the driver who has the most hours at that time. 4. At the beginning of the school year the trips will be assigned to those drivers on a seniority basis. These extra hours are to be recorded on the appropriate form and brought up to date and posted weekly in the bus garage. b. Two (2) drivers in the unit will become responsible for assigning drivers for extra trips. c. These two (2) individuals will be responsible for assigning all extra trip drivers except those which arise due to an emergency. Emergency shall post and maintain be defined as a situation where the two (2) drivers in 4(b) above are not available to assign an extra trip listdriver. d. All extra trips will be given to the two (2) individuals above no later than one (1) week prior to the trip. 5. The trip list shall include, in order of seniority, Extra trips that are refused will be charged to the names of all drivers (full- and part-time), except that any driver in the Transportation Department who does not have a current Class B CDL is ineligible for inclusion employee on the list (and trip chart for the purpose of balancing extra trips. 6. An employee may be assigned transferred from one of theselists to any available driver the other during the school year by submitting a written request to the Maintenance/Transportation Supervisor at least two (2) weeks prior to the effective date of the requested transfer. C. When extra bus runs are to be scheduled, the bus drivers shall be given a minimum of twenty- four (24) hours notice except for fan bus runs. The transportation supervisor will contact three (3) bus drivers with the highest seniority on the active seniority list to be on stand by for the fan bus runs. D. All extra trips will be placed on a trip board with the time, date, destination, and group to be transported list . Extra trips will be selected at a meeting following the morning routes on the last day of school in the week preceding the trips. Trip selection will begin with the driver at the top of the seniority list and rotate to the bottom of the seniority list until all trips are selected. Drivers not in attendance at the meeting shall be passed over for extra trips for that week unless they have an emergency or approved appointment and are excused by the Supervisor. When there would not be enough employees on the active trip list to meet the needs of the Employer, he may then require the least seniority employee or employees on the inactive trip list to take the extra bus run or runs. G. A driver who signs the inactive extra trip list is still eligible to drive as a substitute on a regular bus run providing all drivers on the active trip list refuse the regular bus run. H. A driver not allowed to wait at the site of an extra trip and then surrenders that trip, the driver will be ineligible to take another extra trip at the next two (2) weekly trip meetings following surrender of the trip. Exceptions for emergency situations may be granted by the supervisor. If, within the same school year, the driver again accepts an extra trip and then surrenders that trip, the driver will be ineligible to take another extra trip at the next four (4) weekly trip meetings following surrender of the trip. Extra Trips. When the District requires bargaining unit members to drive extra trips that require use of a school bus, the following procedure will be followed: 1. The Transportation Supervisor Extra trips will be rotated among those bargaining unit drivers who have regularly assigned runs and qualify [qualified means has been driving a regular run for one (1) calendar year] and have indicated a desire in writing on the appropriate form to drive extra trips. 2. Extra Trips. 1. The Transportation Supervisor shall post A. Field trips and maintain an extra trip list. The trip list drivers shall include, be selected and assigned to a roster of interested drivers and the name of those on the roster shall be placed in order of seniority, seniority with the names of all drivers (full- and part-time), except that any driver in with the Transportation Department who does not have greatest seniority being assigned the first such field trip or extra trip. Future trips will be assigned on a current Class B CDL is ineligible for inclusion on the list (rotating basis and will not be assigned reset at the beginning of the school year. Those interested in being placed on the Band, Extra Curricular and/or Athletic trip rosters should sign up between August 1st and September 15th at the location and venue designated by the Transportation Supervisor. B. In the event extra trips cannot be filled from the voluntary list or the trip requires more drivers than on the voluntary list, the school's Transportation Director will go to an extra trip except in an emergency situation a list composed of the remaining drivers, requesting the most senior driver(s) to take the needed additional bus(es). If all drivers on the list refuse, then the Transportation Director will require the junior available driver to take the trip. The forcing of the junior driver will rotate up the list until all drivers have been required at least once to take a trip. C. There shall be a different gate system set up for which late trips. Since Bargaining unit drivers shall not be called at home unless the necessity for a driver falls under an emergency; it is the driver’s responsibiltity to view the lists posted for extra trips. Buses shall be assigned for extra trips. F. All extra trips the driver shall be paid on the following schedule: 1. Groups of 10 or less need not be assigned. 2. Trips of 1 to 5 hours in length shall be paid at the rate of $55.00. Additional hours over 5 shall be paid at a rate of eleven dollars ($11.00). 3. Drivers will be allowed to trade runs with proper notification to the Transportation Director. G. Provisions of Article 20 shall not be subject to the Grievance Procedure. H. Drivers who report for an extra trip and that extra trip is canceled by Chesapeake Union Exempted Village Schools will be paid two (2) hours at eleven dollars ($11.00) per hour reporting pay. I. Drivers assigned to the vocational run shall receive an extra supplemental payment of $15.00 per day. J. Bargaining unit members must sign up for extra trips between August 1st and September 15th of each school year. Trips will be awarded under paragraph A. above. Once a bargaining unit member has signed up on the extra trip list, they shall remain on the list unless until they notify the driver requests Transportation Director of their request to have his/her name be removed from the list. 2K. Bargaining unit members who are approved for overnight trips will submit receipts for meals up to a maximum of $32.50. L. The Board of Education will abide by the Fair Labor Standards as it relates to calculating hours of work on overnight trips involving sleep time. A weekly trip meeting Eight (8) hours uninterrupted sleep time will be held at which available trips, including trips approved for bid in the previous week, will be bid in seniority order (except given each driver with no duties as otherwise specified in Paragraph 3 below) by drivers whose names are on the extra trip list. Prior to noon on the workday immediately preceding the meeting, any driver may surrender a trip that has already been assigned and that trip will be added to the trips being bid at that week’s meeting. A current list shall be maintained in the transportation office showing available trips and trips already bid and assigned. Should a request form arrive in the office following the weekly trip meeting for a trip scheduled prior to the next meeting, the trip shall be assigned using the extra trip list, with available drivers being contacted directly in seniority order. Available drivers will be considered to be those drivers who do not currently hold a trip which is in conflict with the trip being bid. A driver will have a minimum of one (1) hour to respond to the personal contact regarding the extra trip. Should a request form arrive for a trip scheduled within seventy-two (72) hours of receipt of the request form, such trip shall be considered an emergency. Emergency extra trips shall be assigned in seniority order to available drivers as described above. For emergency trips, the District shall only be required to attempt one (1) contact with each available driver. The driver must immediately accept or decline the trip. If there is less than two (2) hours advance notice for a trip, it may be assigned to any available driver on the extra trip list 3. If a driver on the extra trip list accepts an extra trip and then surrenders that trip, the driver will be ineligible to take another extra trip at the next two (2) weekly trip meetings following surrender of the trip.
