Family Death Leave Entitlement. (Applies to SB1, SC1, and SD1 only) Upon approval of the department head or designated representative, a unit member may be granted family death leave with pay not to exceed five (5), but up to eight (8) working days if the employee must travel a distance one way of more than six hundred (600) miles. Such leave shall not be charged against vacation or sick leave to which a unit member may be entitled, but shall be in addition to that leave. The City shall not unreasonably deny such requests. In order to be eligible for family death leave, a unit member must have worked full-time for the City for a period of six (6) consecutive months. A unit member may be asked to furnish satisfactory verification for use of family death leave. In cases involving exceptional hardship, the City will consider granting up to one (1) additional day of family death leave with pay. In such cases, the unit member must receive written approval from the department head or designated representative prior to departure on such leave.
