Fire Engineer. Same physical requirements as above. Performs advanced work in the prevention and suppression of fires; primary duties entail driving fire and rescue apparatus and operating firefighting equipment. Must maintain a valid class “A” drivers license with tanker and airbrake endorsements, and a valid Department of Motor Vehicles Medical Certificate (DL51A).

Fire Engineer. 1. All examinations shall be impartial and shall relate to those matters, which will test fairly the candidate to discharge the duties of the position to be filled. Eligibility for promotion to the position of Engineer requires:
Fire Engineer. Acting Pay Qualified individuals in the Firefighter or Firefighter Paramedic classifications shall receive a 5% differential in base pay for shifts or hours assigned and/or worked as Fire Engineer.
Fire Engineer. Premium Pay Bargaining unit employees appointed as Fire Engineers receive additional compensation equal to five percent (5%) above the employee’s Firefighter step at the time of appointment. A Firefighter who wishes to be considered for appointment to the Fire Engineer class must complete their probationary period as a Firefighter, hold a State Firefighter II certificate, and satisfy all state mandated licensing requirements to drive fire apparatus. Firefighters appointed as Fire Engineers shall receive the five percent (5%) premium pay at the beginning of the pay period immediately following their appointment as a Fire Engineer. The City shall designate a minimum of three (3) Fire Engineers (one (1) per shift).

The retention stipends shall automatically terminate/expire after the last stipend is paid on April 20, 2017, without further action of the parties. Adjustment of wages affecting the FY 2016/17 annual retention stipend will be made during the last pay period of June, 2017. On July 1, 2017 at 12:01 a.m., commencing with the start of the July 1 pay period, the nine percent (9%) stipend value for FY 2015/16 of approximately $256,542 will be converted to a base pay increase of nine percent (9%) with the City assuming rollup costs as set forth on the attached Salary Schedule.
