For Professional Office. After five (5) years of service, a leave of absence will be granted to serve in an elected or appointed state or national professional office, without pay, at the discretion of the Superintendent. The request must be submitted in writing before April 1st preceding the desired year's absence. Notice of intent to return shall be submitted in writing by March 1st of the year of absence in order to obtain employment for the ensuing year. Upon return, the employee will be given conditions for employment as nearly equal to his/her former position as possible when consistent with administration of the school program in the best interest of the pupils.
