Common use of Initial Step Placement Clause in Contracts

Initial Step Placement. Unit members may be given credit on a year for year basis at the time of initial placement on the salary schedule for previous teaching experience which occurred after receipt of a valid preliminary teaching credential, not to exceed twenty (20) years. A year of previous teaching credit will only be awarded if the teacher actually worked 75% of a school year. Previous credit will only be awarded if the previous teaching was within the authority of the credential after receipt of the credential. No credit will be given for previous teaching occurring prior to the unit member being credentialed, teaching which occurred outside the scope of the credential, or teaching services rendered which are not ordinarily expected of a teacher with that credential. Initial placement may be on any step of the salary schedule. All experience shall be in a school accredited by a recognized accrediting organization and verified in writing according to District procedures. Written verification of prior teaching experience must be received by the District within thirty (30) calendar days after the first day of employment or thirty (30) calendar days after the unit member signs a contract of employment with the District, whichever occurs first.
