Common use of Layoff – Vacancy and Reclassification Clause in Contracts

Layoff – Vacancy and Reclassification. Except as otherwise provided, whenever there is a reduction in the work force, the appointing authority shall first demote to a vacancy, if any, in a lower classification for which the employee who is the latest to be laid off in accordance with Section 47.7 is qualified. All persons so demoted shall have his/her names placed on the re-employment list.
