Common use of Leave for Union Meetings Clause in Contracts

Leave for Union Meetings. 8.4.1 The employer shall allow each employee a paid absence of up to two hours for any one meeting the Institute may call in any one year (January to December inclusive), or an aggregate paid absence of up to four hours for any two or more meetings called in that same year. The paid absence in respect of any such meeting shall not exceed two hours to the extent that the employee would otherwise be working for the employer during the meeting. 8.4.2 In respect of every such meeting called notice shall be given to the employer as to the date(s), time(s) and place(s) of such meeting(s). Such notice(s) shall be delivered at least 14 days prior to the date of such meeting(s). 8.4.3 Employees shall resume duty as soon as practicable after the meeting but the employer shall not be obliged to pay any employee for a period greater than two hours in respect of any such meeting. 8.4.4 Only employees who actually attend a meeting called in accordance with this clause shall be entitled to pay in respect of that meeting and to that end a list of employees who attended the meeting shall be given to the employer along with the time of finishing the meeting.
