Common use of Leave of Absence Extensions Clause in Contracts

Leave of Absence Extensions. If the teacher wishes to extend a leave of absence, application shall be made in writing by March 1 of the year in which the leave expires or sixty (60) days prior to the end of the leave if the leave does not coincide with the school year. Granting of such extensions shall be in no more than one (1) year increments, and shall be at the sole discretion of the Board. At the conclusion of the leave extension, if no vacancies are available for which the employee is certified and qualified, the employee shall be considered as terminated. No layoffs shall result in the return of an employee who is on an extended leave of absence.
