Common use of Leave to Hold Union Office Clause in Contracts

Leave to Hold Union Office. ‌ (a) The Employer shall grant an unpaid leave of absence to an employee who is appointed or elected to a union office for a period of up to and including three years. (b) A request for such approved leave must be given to the Employer by the Union, in writing, on union letterhead and signed by the President of the Union. A request for leave under this clause may be denied until such time as the Employer has had 30 days' advance notice. (c) An employee who obtains such a leave of absence shall return to his/her employment within 30 calendar days after the completion of his/her employment with the Union. (d) The Employer is not obligated to grant such leave to more than one employee at a time.
