Leaves of Absences - General Manager, Human Resource Services Approval. Upon application to, and upon receiving the permission of the General Manager, Human Resource Services, Official Union Representatives may be granted leave of absence without pay: (i) to transact other business in connection with matters affecting members of the bargaining unit; (ii) to perform duties as a full-time officer of the Union. Such employee shall not suffer a loss in seniority in the service of the Employer, and shall continue to accumulate seniority while performing such duties. Upon retirement from the duties as an officer of the Union, such former Union officer shall be entitled to return to a position within the class of positions to which the employee’s former position was allocated and for which the employee is qualified if any position within such class is vacant or held by an employee with less seniority. If all of the positions within such class are held by employees with more seniority or have been abolished, such former Union officer shall return to any vacancy at or below their previous pay grade for which they are qualified; or, (iii) to accept appointment or election to a full-time position with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Vancouver Labour Council, the British Columbia Federation of Labour or the Canadian Labour Congress. An employee on such leave shall not lose seniority in the service of the Employer. Upon termination of such period of office, the employee shall return to any vacancy at or below their previous pay grade for which they are qualified.
