Light Duty/Modified Return to Work Clause Samples

The Light Duty/Modified Return to Work clause establishes the employer's policy for accommodating employees who are temporarily unable to perform their regular job duties due to injury or illness. Under this clause, the employer may offer alternative tasks or modified responsibilities that fit within the employee's medical restrictions, such as reduced lifting requirements or shorter work hours. This approach helps employees remain productive and maintain income while recovering, and it also supports the employer by facilitating a quicker and safer return to the workplace, reducing the duration and cost of work absences.
Light Duty/Modified Return to Work. An employee on worker’s compensation leave, light duty or modified return to work that cannot perform the essential functions of their job shall not have the right to bump. The employee shall retain the right to bump back into the department under Article 15 once medically released to return to work.
