Local Union Employment. In the event that an employee becomes a full-time Union official, the employee shall be granted leave of absence without pay, for the purpose of carrying out the duties of office. a) Seniority shall continue as if the employee had been continuously employed with the City. b) The employee shall have the right at any time to return to the previously held position, or to such other position to which the employee may be promoted by reason of seniority and ability. In order to do so, the employee shall provide written notice to the City, no later than 30 days after ceasing to be a full-time Union official. c) Such an employee shall contribute to the Welfare Fund and all of the employee benefit plans in accordance with the conditions of such plans. It is understood that the City’s contribution toward the cost of such benefits will be borne by the Union.
